Yesterday Not Quite Dead was released. Of course I am deep into a draft of a completely different book. Hence, vacuumland. How I miss the theatre & Opening Night. Of course when I did plays I bitched constantly about audiences. Only when I swallowed my fragile arrogance and sat among them and watched their reactions did I find out what they had to teach me. Nothing like that happens in the novel business. You don't get to sit beside the reader and watch them read. Actually, come to think of it, that would be quite creepy. Speaking of creepy, the RCMP's comments on the taser death at the airport refer to the taser as a "tool," as though it were a wrench or a screwdriver. Wouldn't want to come right out and use the word "weapon."

I’m trying not to check my rating at Amazon every few hours, with poor success. It’s a way (albeit a silly way) to connect the universe. When my rating drops from 200,000 to 22,000 – a couple of people bought a book! Celebration! For about a minute and a half. Yet another addiction, obviously. The How am I Doing addiction – such a fool’s game, especially at the age of 61. I read that Brian Mulroney had a Fridge-sized safe in the basement of 22 Sussex Drive, full of cash. He'd pull cash out of the fridge and give it to Mila to shop with. He's becoming more complex and interesting by the minute. Also his call for a public inquiry - which couldn't include his private business dealings. Beneath the bluster is one smart customer. It would make one terrific musical one day, the life of Brian Mulroney. Narrated, perhaps, by Conrad Black. Eric Peterson thinks the musical should be called, "Isn't Life Funny?"
